Dorms become available to students June 10, 2018.
11:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M CHECK-IN
On-site check-in for the Summer School will be from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 10 at the IAIA Residence Center (Number 7 on the campus map). CSSS staff will have a table set up and will greet you. First you will check-in with SFI staff to receive information about SFI and the summer school. Then you will got to a second table staffed by IAIA staff where you will receive your dorm assignment, dorm key, electronic access card, identification card, and information about IAIA facilities. If you are riding the Sandia Shuttle from the Albuquerque airport ask the driver to drop you off at the HWY 599 Road Runner stop. You will need to order a LYFT or an UBER from this stop to get to IAIA. It would be wise to share a ride with other CSSS students on your shuttle.
If you are driving your personal vehicle to the summer school, you will be able to park for free on the IAIA campus. There is parking available directly adjacent to the Residence Center. Please find the next available space.
ARRIVAL DAY PICNIC DINNER GRILLOUT
June 10, 2018 from 6:00-8:30 p.m. will take place outdoors on the Dance Circle of the campus ([Number 11 of the campus map).
Late Arrivals
If you are unable to arrive during the check-in period, you will need to check in and get your room key from the Housing Co-ordinator at IAIA (more info soon).
Monday Lectures Begin
Lectures start at 9:00 a.m. each day in the Commons Room located on the 2nd floor of the Center for Lifelong Education (CLE) building. (Number 4 on the campus map). Be on time each day.
MONDAY WELCOME DINNER
June 11, 2018 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at the Museum of Contemporary Native Arts in downtown Santa Fe. This event is still being planned. More information coming soon.

2018 CSSS T-shirt
It is a tradition that summer school students select an image for their CSSS t-shirt by voting on designs submitted by fellow students. This will happen at the beginning of summer school.
When you register, you will be asked to select your t-shirt size. Please use this chart to help you select the correct size.

Housing at IAIA is based on rooms with single and double occupancy, depending on availability. Some students will have to share rooms. Thanks for being flexible.
Clean sheets and towels are provided, as well as a pillow and blanket. Bedding and towels will be exchanged at the halfway point of summer school. We suggest that you bring a clock and anything else you might need for your personal comfort.
NOTE:
For safety and contractual reasons you may NOT have overnight guests in the dormitories. We can recommend local hotels or other accommodations for your guests. IAIA does not allow smoking inside any of the buildings.
If you are locked out of your room, please contact Campus Security by calling 505.577.1660. They will send someone to let you in.
Three meals a day are served in the cafeteria, located in Building 3 on the map, Monday through Saturday. Two meals are served on Sunday. All meals are included in your room and board; you will be issued an electronic swipe card that you must present upon entry to the dining hall. The nearest restaurants are about eight miles away.

NOTE: SERVICE times listed above is when food is served. The cafeteria will remain open an additional half hour at each meal for socializing. Food will not be served during the social half hour.
ALSO NOTE: - Saturday breakfast is a continental breakfast.
Due to legal constraints, alcohol may not be consumed in the dining hall, coffee shop, classrooms, Student Activities Center, or playing fields. Alcohol may only be consumed in common areas and meeting spaces if SFI has secured a permit from the college. Any guests drinking in these areas will be asked to disperse.
Linen Exchange
Clean linen will be exchanged at the halfway point of summer school. Instructions will be provided when you arrive.
Laundry Facilities Available on Campus
Cost for one load of wash – $1.25

Payment method - Coins (Quarters Only)
Laundry Detergent – You must buy your own. It is sold in many stores and at the IAIA Gift Shop.

Mail will be delivered to the CSSS Office at IAIA each weekday. The office is located behind the Commons (the room we will be meeting in for lectures).
TELEPHONES
There are no telephones provided on campus. Plan to bring your cell phone.
CELL PHONES
The Santa Fe Institute are located in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Because of the terrain, cell phone coverage may be spotty, inconsistent, or unavailable. IAIA is located in a more open area of Santa Fe and generally has good cell phone coverage.
ATHLETIC FACILITIES
All students staying on campus will have free access to IAIA's Student Activity Center, using your IAIA ID/meal card. We will be posting hours soon.
COMPUTER & INTERNET
The dorm rooms have WiFi. We are checking on the availability of Ethernet jacks.. VOIP services such as Skype may encounter connection issues.
There is wifi access across the IAIA campus. Internet access at the SFI main campus will be limited to guest access on local machines.
You must bring with you any power converters or plug adapters to plug your computer into the 120V outlets in the United States. We do not supply foreign power converters.

SFI Campus Visits:
Fridays will be held exclusively at the Santa Fe Institute Cowan Campus, which is approximately 16 miles from IAIA. Shuttles will load at 8:00 a.m. and depart at 8:15 p.m. from the parking circle at IAIA. It takes at least 40 minutes to travel from IAIA to SFI. The day at SFI will last until approximately 4:45 p.m. Shuttles will then depart from SFI at 5:00 p.m. to return to IAIA unless notified otherwise.

Car Rental: Car rental is available both in Santa Fe at your own cost. We have corporate rates with Enterprise - for more information, please contact SFI program staff. Since our arrangement with Enterprise doesn't cover insurance, we recommend that you accept supplemental coverage at the desk if your credit card or personal insurance policy does not cover rental car insurance. You must be 25 or older to rent a car.
Taxi: There is no taxi service in Santa Fe. For car-for-hire, use Uber or Lyft.
Local bus service: Santa Fe has a small public transportation system, Santa Fe Trails. For route and schedule information, see https://www.santafenm.gov/route_maps_and_schedules/.
HEALTH INSURANCE:
It is very important that you have health insurance coverage while attending the summer school. International participants are especially advised to make sure they have adequate coverage before entering the United States.
PROGRAM EXPECTIONS
PROGRAM EXPECTATIONS:
We expect that all participants will comply with the following requirements: 1) attend all lectures for the full duration of the program; 2) participate fully in the intellectual development and write-up of a group project and fulfill all related assignments and deadlines; 3) complete all surveys administered by SFI related to the CSSS, including pre-program survey, all faculty evaluations, and a post-program survey. Participants who do not meet these requirements may be asked to leave the program at the discretion of the director.

8:30 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. CHECK-OUT
All dorm rooms must be vacated by 10:00 A.M. on Friday, July 8th. Please return your key to CSSS staff at the table on the first floor of Petersen or to the switchboard. If you depart before 8:30 A.M. on Thursday, please make prior arrangements with CSSS staff and leave your key at the Switchboard. Lost keys or keys not turned in by 10:00 A.M. incur a $25 fee.

SANTA FE:
Santa Fe is located in northern New Mexico at an elevation of 7,000 feet (2,130 meters) in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. With a population of over 65,000 people, it is well known for its art, culture, dining, and year-round outdoor activities. June/July weather is usually hot and sunny during the day (90F/32C) and cool in the evening (55F/13C). There are often thundershowers in the afternoon. Dress is casual. Be sure to bring sunglasses, sunscreen, and a hat with you. Hiking boots are also recommended.
