Abstract

The experiment of Hubler in which an electrical current is applied to a set of wheel bearings in a thin layer of oil shows self-organised fractal patterns, first in their search for contact to the ground electrode and then in their optimization of minimum resistance in the distribution of the wheel bearings. Computer simulations exist that simulate more or less the resulting fractals, albeit with different resulting distributions of end points etc. than the natural experiment, but these simulations do not show the original search patterns. We are trying, in Matlab, to build a simulation that shows both.
