Complex Systems Summer School 2014

Gary Watmough joined the AgCenter as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in September 2012. He has a PhD and MSc in Remote Sensing and Spatial Analysis from the University of Southampton in the UK and a Batchelors in Geography from Lancaster University in the UK. His research interests are focused on human-natural systems and the integration of socioeconomic data with remotely sensed satellite data to explore methods of updating information on socioeconomic conditions between census and household survey enumeration. This work began with Gary’s PhD dissertation research which fused satellite imagery with socioeconomic data to explore if census variables could be predicted from remotely sensed satellite sensor data. He has also worked on several research projects based in Nepal looking into poverty and access to rural roads and exploring the spatial relationships of adaptation to climate change in rural settings.
