Sean graduated from the University of Montana in 2008 with bachelor's degrees in molecular biology, microbiology (with a minor in chemistry), and French. In 2010, during a year abroad as a Fulbright scholar, he earned a M.S. in synthetic biology from Uppsala University. He worked as a molecular systems ecologist for two years in the private sector, before returning to graduate school. Currently, he is a PhD candidate in the biophysical sciences graduate program at The University of Chicago. He is also a research associate within the Institute for Genomics and Systems Biology at Argonne National Laboratory, where he is a lead data analyst for the Earth Microbiome Project. He is interested in using microbial systems to address long-standing questions in theoretical ecology. Website
