Born and raised outside Chicago, IL, I escaped to the warmer climes and surf of southern California for graduate school at UCLA where I received my Ph.D. in Immunology and Microbiology. I traveled further south to San Diego for post-docs at The Salk Institute for Biological Studies and San Diego Supercomputing Center, where I studied the molecular biology of HIV and Herpesviruses. I've been working in the fields of high performance computing and bioinformatics/genomics ever since. I enjoy surfing, working out, backpacking, climbing and racing cars.
My research interests include biological networks, modeling of infectious diseases and pathogenesis, genotype networks, and genome evolution and adaptation with regards to cancer.
