Recent research suggests the processes which lead to allometric scaling in contemporary cities have been part of human societies all along. In this talk I illustrate a variety of manifestations of these processes in the archaeological record and discuss the implications of these findings for theories of social complexity.

Urban Scaling and Social Complexity

Recent research suggests the processes that lead to allometric scaling in contemporary cities have been part of human societies all along. In this talk I illustrate a variety of manifestations of these processes in the archaeological record and discuss the implications of these findings for theories of social complexity.
