Jan followed his undergraduate education in physics at the Technical University of Berlin, Germany, and received his Ph.D. in theoretical condensed matter physics at the University of California, Santa Cruz, in 2007. After his Ph.D., Jan switched to complex systems, spending his first postdoc at Max Planck Institute, Hamburg, where he published a number of articles on the global climate system. Jan is now working at the Center for Models of Life/Niels Bohr Institute, Copenhagen, Denmark, an interdisciplinary research group with a focus on complex systems in physics, biology, the social and geosciences. Jan's main current research interest lies in the modeling of DNA methylation, an important topic in the field of epigenetics. Website
