Collective Decision Making: From Neurons to Societies

This workshop will bring together a group of people from diverse fields with interests in understanding how systems of decentralized agents produce collective decisions. The notion of decentralized, collective decision making is a fundamental topic in complex systems and, not surprisingly, interest in this topic spans a remarkable number of fields. The key questions we wish to pursue in this workshop are: In what contexts do we see collective decision making? How are such decisions formulated? How good are these systems at making choices? Are these systems robust? Can they be designed or manipulated? What are the common principles underlying these systems?
