Deborah Sunter, University of California, Berkeley - Berkeley, CA USA

As an undergraduate at Cornell University, Dr. Sunter led a student satellite research project. Years later, her satellite successfully launched. While she found aerospace engineering fascinating, she became increasingly aware of the urgency of energy sustainability. She hoped to address this issue both academically and politically. She received her Ph.D. in mechanical engineering at UC Berkeley studying solar thermal combined heat and power systems and then worked at the Department of Energy: Advanced Manufacturing Office as an AAAS Science and Technology Policy fellow. She now is a postdoctoral scholar working with Dr. Daniel Kammen at UC Berkeley to study grid integration of renewable energy.
