Sally Maki

Hi my name is Sally, my email is sallymaki(at)berkeley(dot)edu, feel free to touch base. I'm very excited about this school and learning about complex systems, one of those things that is annoyingly mysterious to me. And of course about meeting such a cool crowd :-).

A little about me. I am currently a second year master's student in the Energy and Resources Group (http://erg.berkeley.edu), an interdisciplinary program at UC Berkeley. By the time I meet any of you though, I will hopefully be graduated. I grew up in Dayton, OH where I also got a degree in Chemical Engineering. I am 23, but by the time I meet you I'll have revolved once more around the sun. In my free time I am usually hanging out with my neighbors, but I also like to watch a lot of movies, work on web design, or "explore". As far as outdoor activities, I prefer things that don't involve flying objects (or running) - rock climbing, hiking, biking, stuff with water.

I am interested in:

- Sustainability
- Resource management
- Information technology
- Education
- International development
- Social systems and movements
- Design

and the relationships between them, of course. In particular, I am interested in how information technology can be utilized to improve resource management of all kinds. Resources include people too! Which ties into why I am so interested in education and social systems. Resource flows are often part of complex systems which creates a lot complications with management. Information technology can address some of the issues there.

Here is a picture of me, hanging out at Half Moon Bay after the Maverick's Surf Competition. We found this crab claw on the beach and it just started attacking people!
