The 2008 Annual Science Board Symposium entitled "Sustainability and the Urban Experience" will be held Friday, April 11 at the La Fonda Hotel (100 East San Francisco Street) in Santa Fe, NM.

Abstract: Cities have been connected throughout history with the advent of new technologies, political and organizational forms, economic development, but also with disease, poverty and pollution. As humanity seeks to achieve a transition towards sustainable development, urbanization remains an unstoppable force, especially in developing nations. This meeting explores many facets of this ongoing global urban revolution with the objective of clarifying the mechanisms that lead to greater economic productivity and innovation characteristic of cities, while trying to avoid the pitfalls of extreme poverty and degradation of the Earth's natural environment.

Please note, this event is by invitation only.
