Perin Ruttonsha, University of Waterloo – Kitchener Ontario Canada
In her doctoral research, Perin applies concepts from complexity, socio-ecological resilience, social innovation, systemic design, novel ecosystems, and biomimicry discourses in considering mechanisms for the adaptive transformation of settlement systems along sustainability pathways. She is particularly interested in the human dimensions of change and the scaling of complexity through innovation.
Central to her work is a multi-layered approach to transition, which iteratively navigates conceptual, technological, and political dimensions. As a strategic designer, Perin bridges research with practice through multi-stakeholder engagement processes. She also maintains an active visual arts practice, which explores themes of adaptive transition, cumulative complexity, and collapse.
