I study microbial ecology and evolution, with a special interest in understanding the individual lives of microbial cells. I'm a postdoc at a small nonprofit research institute in San Francisco, in the Boundaries of Life Initiative, which focuses on understanding the fundamentals of what it means to be biological. I'm also adjunct faculty at San Francisco State University.
