My career in a nutshell: From 1998 to 2002 I was a member of the resident faculty of the Santa Fe Institute.  Now I am an Associate Professor in the Center for the Study of Complex Systems at the University of Michigan.  I've been teaching at the SFI Summer School since 1996. (In the distant geological past I was also an SFI postdoc, although sadly I never attended the summer school.)
Mark Newman is a professor in the Center for the Study of Complex Systems at the University of Michigan.  Previously he was a member of the resident faculty of the Santa Fe Institute from 1998 to 2002.  He has been teaching at the SFI Summer School since 1996.


This year I'll be lecturing on networks, which is the main topic of my research.  Here are two review articles, one short and one long, that deal with networks.  You should try to take a look at the shorter one, by Strogatz, before week two of the school.  The longer one, which is by myself, is for reference:
