Hello,everyone! I’m Shi Shanshan, I have been admitted to the graduate school for Doctor Degree of Tsinghua University with the privilege of exemption from the National Entrance Examination for Graduate Students from Southeast University. My major is Electrical Engineering. I will try to learn to use the complex system theory to solve problems of the stability of electrical power system during the valuable four weeks. Also, I will be interested in learning from the work of other participants. Additionally, I like sports, movie and traveling. Looking forward to meeting new friends from all part of the world!
My answers to Prof. Feldman's questions are as follows:
1. What topics do you have some expertise in and would you be willing to help others learn them? It is difficult for me to say in which area I have expertise since I feel that I have learned many kinds of knowledge in my university, which I have mastered at about the same degree. However, I did my undergraduate degree in Power System, and would love to work with people who have been research on the power grid, especially the stability of electricity network, which is the orientation of my research in the future. I have just graduated from the department of Electricity Engineering of Southeast University, Nanjing, PRC., so I have some basic knowledge of electricity system, power electronics, automatic controlling and motors.
2. What do you want to learn at the CSSS? Since I have just contacted a little of the power system, which is the main field I will do research in during the future time of graduate school, I want to learn the theory and the application of power system and how to keep it stable. As a green hand, what I need most is the method of how to carry out further learning and independent research in this area with my present background. That’s what I really need.
3. Do you have any projects or research interests that would benefit from an interdisciplinary approach? I think all the work benefit from an interdisciplinary approach, however, since I don’t have rich expertise and experience, I hope I can work with the people who have the similar background as me, from whom I can learn a lot. Additionally, I think it is appropriate for me to work with the people who are interested in the power network, the electronics, the automatic controlling or the system stability.
4. Do you have any ideas for what sort of project you would like to do this summer? I am interested in the power grid, in dynamic system and in system stability.
5. Suppose you could travel one-hundred years in the future and ask researchers any three questions. What would those questions be? 1). How can Complex System synthesize and at the same time distinguish different disciplines? 2). How can we gain good stability of the power system?
