Hey there,
I'm a doctoral candidate at the Gund Institute for Ecological Economics and the Rubenstein School for Environment and Natural Resources at the University of Vermont. My degree focus is in Systems Ecology. My research explores the role that ecological design can play in the relationship between natural and social communities in Appalachia. Specifically, I study the dynamic between coal mine soil restoration, carbon sequestration, bioenergy production, and community development. The adverse economic and environmental issues of the region, as well as their intimacy of knowledge, music, and folklore have driven me to seek out solutions in order to foster sustainable communities. I also teach a course in Ecological Literacy for non science majors, where I learn just as much as they do.
As a proud Midwesterner from Indiana, I find myself at home in the kitchen and enjoying with friends. I also love to hike and play in the water and woods.
