Demosthenes James Peterson is Director, Research Management at the Eurasia Group in New York City where he oversees the firm’s advisory research for corporate clients. Familiarly known by his initials, DJ also manages Eurasia Group’s global practices on terrorism and security, health, and energy and natural resources.
Prior to joining Eurasia Group in June 2006, Dr. Peterson was a Senior Political Scientist at the RAND Corporation in Santa Monica, where he managed the firm’s Environment, Energy and Economic Development Program. During his years at RAND, Dr. Peterson led research and consulting ventures for a range of industry sectors and segments, including environmental technologies, information technologies, forestry, mining, refining, automobiles, real estate, and emergency response. DJ began his career as a specialist on environmental issues, particularly in Russia and the former Soviet Union. He has worked in and for clients in a number of other countries as well, including Germany, Japan, Thailand, and Qatar.
Dr. Peterson frequently speaks to and writes for industry, policy, and academic audiences and his work has been cited by the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, “NOW with Bill Moyers,” CNN, and in the United States Senate. He received his B.A. from Duke University, with a double major in international studies and Russian, and his M.A. and Ph.D. in political science from UCLA.
