Social Network Map Idea
How about a graphic representing the summer school participants? There is data about all of us located on this wiki. We could take a few key areas to infer the network connections. Possible groupings include expertise/interest area (biology, social, systems engineering), geographies (Americas, EMEA, APAC), activities (hiking, board games, social), and student/business network.

Quote idea Let's put this phrase on the T-shirt: "adaptation to the edge of chaos" Hübler used quite a lot during his lab. Giovanni

3. proposal from chris So, I've always loved the front cover to King Crimson's 1981 album 'Discipline', in which they have a song caled 'Discipline' and onc called 'Indiscipline.' For anyone who knows them, King Crimson, especially in their 1990's incarnation, are the closest thing to 'complexity musicians' I know who don't work in electronic composition (multiple time signature, key signatures, double trio of musicians only occasionally hitting stable states in otherwise quasi-out of sync interactions). Anyway, the image from the discipline cover is below. Its copyrighted, dunno if that's a problem, but considering what we do, the motto '(in)discipline' hits me as interesting - isn't what we do at the border between discipline and indiscipline, or their intertwinement? It would be easy to put the word '(in)discipline' under an equally fascinating knot (particularly due to the fact that knot theory is a branch of math closely related to what we do!). Or we could even have a knot being eaten by ants, or even a bear? (I also like the idea of 'we survived the bear!' on the back . . . )
Here's one which is public domain, and for those interested in knot theory, there's a lot going on here:
This was created by a free 'knot generator program' which lets you modify parameters to make cool things like this:
After I go to Sripeep's topology tutorial, I hope to be able to explain why each of the lines in these knots are open sets intertwined to form a yet more complex topological structure . . .

Michael White, one of the founders of the Narrative Therapy movement, recently and unexpectedly died. Narrative Therapy is nothing if not tolerate of diversity and hence the connection I see with Complexity Theory. At his recent memorial service a eulogy was offered that included a song from Margarita Boom. I've extracted a piece of it below that captures both something of the nature of our group as well as the nature of our shared endeavor.
"Brother of the sun and of time who cares what color the wind is? We are joined by the taste of a dream of being hand in hand holding a small piece, a bit of a world where you are allowed to walk at your own pace to feel what you feel and, although different, to sing your own song."
