Event Summary: The verdict is in. Problems facing society today are too complex to be tackled from a singular perspective. In this one-day meeting we aggressively explore three topics of global importance, robustness of financial systems, the sustainability of energy supply and the potential evolvability of the components that comprise our current medical system. The goal of this broad overview, presented from the perspectives of the scientific, political and private sector communities, is to identify the key gaps in our current understanding and clearly articulate the critical questions to be pursued.

As the leader in multidisciplinary approach the Santa Fe Institute routinely brings together scientists from different disciplines to explore complex problems facing science and society. Hence SFI is the natural place to pursue some of the most compelling questions of our time. We invite you to participate in this forum for open dialogue and inquiry in the manner in which we at SFI approach science—bring together visionaries from different fields and walks of life, catalyze new ways of thinking and capitalize on what emerges from the collective interaction.
