Hello to everyone in CSSS 2007. Here is a little bit about me. Education: Undergraduate at the University of Texas at Austin B.S. Applied Mathematics B.S. Microbiology I am currently working on a PhD in Molecular Biology at the University of Arizona. I am interested in modeling biological networks at the molecular level.
Other interests: Hiking, mountain biking, music, reading both fiction and non-fiction (Typically science related) books.
Can't wait to meet everyone.
- What topics do you have some expertise in and would you be willing to help others learn them? I am pretty comfortable with how cellular networks (both protein-protein and protein DNA interactions) work, and many aspects of cellular and molecular biology.
- What do you want to learn at the CSSS? I want to learn techniques used to understand complex systems, in order to apply it to my own research. In addition I love learning what is going on in other disciplines, so I hope to gain insight into areas outside of my field of study.
- Do you have any projects or research interests that would benefit from an interdisciplinary approach? Yes, a large portion of my thesis will deal with modeling cellular pathways so currently I am collaborating with people in Systems engineering and Applied Mathematics.
- Do you have any ideas for what sort of project you would like to do this summer? Not yet.
- Suppose you could travel one-hundred years in the future and ask researchers any three questions. What would those questions be? Yikes this is hard, but has lead to many great discussions with colleagues. I too will cheat a little.
1. What is the most important Scientific discovery of the last 100 years and why? 2. Has computational power exceeded human intelligence and if so what impact has this had on society/research? 3. Have we found conclusive proof that life exists on other planets and are there any signs that this life is intelligent or conscious of its own consciousness?
