Program Start

Sunday, December 6, 2015 Dorms officially become available to students December 6, 2015. If you would like to check in a day earlier that is fine just let me know

11:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M CHECK-IN


CSWS participants will be assigned double occupancy dormitory rooms at IISERM. Bedding and towels are provided. We suggest that you bring a clock and anything else you might need for your personal comfort.

Three meals a day are served in the cafeteria, located in the VH dining hall. All meals are included in your room and board.

VH dining hall meal schedule:
Lunch: 13:00-14:30
Dinner: 20:00-21:30

Additional Important Information

All international participants will need to apply for a conference visa to enter India.

It is very important that you have health insurance coverage while attending the winter school. International participants are especially advised to make sure they have adequate coverage before entering India.

We expect that all participants will comply with the following requirements: 1) attend all lectures for the full duration of the program; 2) participate fully and fulfill all related assignments and deadlines; 3) complete all surveys administered by SFI and IISER related to the CSWS, including pre-program survey, all faculty evaluations, and a post-program survey. Participants who do not meet these requirements may be asked to leave the program at the discretion of the director.


The school consists mainly of lectures. The schedule on the wiki is updated as information becomes available.

Prior to the beginning of the school, you are strongly encouraged to review the following areas in mathematics, if you feel it is necessary. You will find discussions of these areas in any standard college-level calculus, linear algebra, or probability and statistics textbook.

Calculus: basic techniques for differentiation and integration, basic techniques for solving ordinary differential equations, partial differentiation, basic techniques for solving partial differential equations, basic techniques for solving series.

Linear algebra: solving linear systems of equations, vector spaces, matrix theory, eigenvectors and eigenvalues.

Probability and statistics: sample spaces, elements of probability calculations, binomial coefficients and elements of combinatorics, random variables (distributions, variance, and standard deviation).
