I have 2 more extra passports --Marla

  • Museum of International Folk Art - FamilyPass
  • New Mexico History Museum / Palace of the Governors - FamilyPass
  • Museum of Indian Arts & Culture - FamilyPass
  • New Mexico Museum of Art - FamilyPass

Walking or taking the bus

Museum Hill is also only about a mile away, and not a bad walk. Thanks to Ellen.

Interested in renting cars

A full-sized car can be rented by 5 people for USD $10.72 per person plus shared gas. Visit ter.ps/csss16car for complete information on car rentals.

Please specify whether you would like to take up on renting one of the cars and the kind of insurance you have

July 2 - July 3: Carlsbad Cavern and Whitesand National Monument trip

Please sign up below. If you can drive, that would be a plus! (Ideally, it would be good to have at least 2-3 persons who can drive in such a multi-day road trip)

  • Nicole: I can drive but would prefer not to
  • Ryan (I have license and insurance)
  • Devrim-I will be driving too, and can drive some people. I may consider leaving on Friday and stay for two nights, depending on the research schedule.
  • Ben. I don't have drivers' license, but...
  • Danilo. I have italian driving license. Some say I can drive.
  • Cheng Jin. I have Chinese driver's license and I can be a bench driver.
  • Jelena - I can drive

July 1 - July 3: Grand Canyon - Antelope Canyon

Leave St. John’s college Friday 6pm (after dinner).

Sleep somewhere on the way, 4h drive from Santa Fe (arrival 10-11pm) – we don’t know yet exactly where but it should not be hard to find a hostel or something.

Get up early on Saturday and reach Grand Canyon before noon (2:30h-drive). It’s 30$/car to enter the park. Using our car and a shuttle bus we can access all the viewpoints (some are not accessible by car). We can also do some hiking!

Sleep somewhere midway between Grand Canyon and Antelope Canyon (1h-drive)

Get to Antelope Canyon (early morning, 1h-drive). 40$/person for the tour (4x4 truck, lasts aprox. 1 hour). Then there is also a river trip in the Colorado river from Glen Canyon dam to Lees Ferry (raftthecanyon.com -90$/person) These are options we should discuss, as they are expensive. Otherwise we can look for nice trails nearby to hike.

Go back to St. John’s (6h drive)

Places where to sleep have not been decided yet, we would like to know who would be interested before booking, so that we can find lodging for everyone. We have checked some Motel 6 where there are double queen bed rooms (two beds, four people) that are fairly economical.

Let us know if you are interested, as we should meet as soon as possible to book the accomodation!

- Hey JP, any recommendation for good hangouts? I know folks have gone to Second Street but I've heard margaritas at the Shed are good (that's more of a restaurant, though, IIRC). - Ellen

Second Street, Draft Station, Thunderbird, Secreto are all pretty cool hangouts. There's also the Violet Crown movie theater with a *huge* beer selection and nice open space down in the Railyard. -JP

We'll then head up through the High Road to Taos and see some nice old towns, then lunch in Taos, see the Rio Grande Gorge, go to art museums,. June 24 @ 5:00pm - 1:00am Meow Wolf expedition: House of Eternal Return exposition and Concert at night: Nosaj Thing & Lucky Dragons

Apparently a mindblowing non-linear interactive exposition in the day and awesome concert at night, so we can do both in one go or you can join us for either ; )

You can check the info for the exposition here: https://meowwolf.com/about/visit/ and the concert here: https://meowwolf.com/event/currents-nosaj-thing-lucky-dragons/

Car volunteers welcome, otherwise we would just share and Uber, taxi or just take a lovely walk and watch the New Mexican nightsky (you know, just in case we suddenly find that there are double the stars in our view ;) Note: not free, expo is 18 and concert is 25, but I predict they are surely worth it!

July 1 Opera

The Santa Fe Opera season starts July 1 with Puccini's 1910 La Fanciulla del West -- a gold rush era drama set in the American West, called a "lyrical poem" by a Toscanini, and starring Minnie, a saloon owner who becomes the outlaw protagonists's love interest.

Seems like the perfect opera to see while we are in Santa Fe! It's common at the Santa Fe Opera to tailgate first -- which we can do with a quick trip to Whole Foods on our way.

If you're interested in going, sign up here. In a day or two we'll work on getting tickets together. Ticket prices seem to range from about $37 to over $300.

No dates yet, they're open until 10:30 PM so we could go almost anytime. If you're interested suggest a date.

July 2: Return to Meow Wolf

There is a lot to see and a lot to miss in the House of Eternal Return. The exhibit opens at 10 AM, or we could go in the afternoon/evening if that works better for people.

Still needs a ride

Ellen: I will be around tomorrow and would be willing to drive people to Meow Wolf (text me at 703-585-0787). Scott also expressed interest in going but not at 10 AM.
