"New Perspectives on Risk", co-sponsored by Credit Suisse and SFI will take place Thursday, October 19, 2006 at Credit Suisse, EMA-2B Auditorium, 11 Madison Avenue, New York, NY.

"New Perspectives on Risk" brings together academics and practitioners to dissect risk from political, economic and financial perspectives. Building from an overview of economic history and the macro forces which shape the competitive landscape of financial and other complex systems, the meeting will explore how organizations and individuals understand and approach risk and uncertainty. Seemingly esoteric connections between identifying and predicting fat-tailed phenomenon and the intrinsic link between investing and gambling will be discussed. Each speaker shares their perspective on mitigating, or at least better understanding the factors which drive uncertainty.

This one-day meeting provides a birds-eye view of approach of Santa Fe Institute science: bring together great minds thinking about a topic from different perspectives and close critical gaps in scientific understanding.
