Please check out my home page for information about me [1], my lab [2], and our publications [3]

The latest stuff that I'll be talking about include our Berlow et al. 2009 paper [4] that talks about predicting effects of species loss and our Romanuk et al. 2009 paper [5] that talks about predicting invasion success. But first, I'll be talking about more basic ideas of how complex ecological networks manage to persist in nature despite their mathematical improbability... what Bob May describes as "the devious strategies which make for stability in enduring natural systems." Those strategies include network structure and subtleties in feeding behavior [6], predator to prey body size ratios [7], and allometric degree distributions [8]. The first author of this last paper, Sonja Otto, was a CSSS student last year (2008)... you folk are awesome!!!

It would be great if you read the first of those two groups of papers and at least the abstracts of the other papers before the presentations. Questions during and after lecture are *extremely* welcome... especially if they are hard to answer!
