Hi Steve, for your nanomachine evolution, a major problem currently is stiction. This prevents most nanomachines from functioning properly. One recently proposed idea is using a repulsive casimir force to repel parts that shouldn't be touching. This force is very sensitive to underlying material properties. It would be interesting to toss this in the evolutionary mix. Nathan Hodas
