Me

My full name is YunQi Xue, but my family and friends call me QiQi, pronouncing chichi in English. I am from Shanghai, but I have been living in Amsterdam for more than 5 years. I started out with BSc in Economics and Finance. Currently, I am doing my research master in logic at Institute for Logic, Language and Computation(ILLC), University of Amsterdam.

Academic Interests

I am genuinely interested in human behavior and believe in mathematical approaches. At ILLC, with focus on fundamental principles of encoding, transmission and comprehension of information, the research spreads into fields like, logic, mathematics, computer science, linguistics, cognitive science, artificial intelligence and philosophy. I am rather involved with computational, cognitive and philosophical sides of the research.

Currently one of the projects I am working on is about voting systems. The basic goal is find possible cognitive condition, which might correct the current complexity results, by looking into the empirical results of elections.

Outside of the Academic World

I take all possible opportunities to get in touch with real people from all professions. In the past, I worked as an assistant for different art projects and a professional translator for governmental events and conferences. Currently I run my own company aside my study as an independent consultant for company strategies, mainly involved in legal domain.

For leisure, I like reading, watching movies, but especially playing cards, in particular Tichu.

Answers to the questions

1. What are your main interests? Feel free to include a "pie in the sky" big idea!
   • I am interested in human decision making and strategic behavior both on micro- and macro scopes. At the same time, I am also interested in the relation and the transition between a small-group human interaction and a large-group human interaction.
2. What sorts of expertise can you bring to the group?
   • I have experience in the following fields: economics (including applied maths in economics), finance, logic (propositional logic, first order logic and very basic intuitionistic logic), computational social choice (e.g. voting systems), logic programming language (prolog), game theory (recently interested in epistemic game theory), LaTex
3. What do you hope to get out of the CSSS?
   • Get some basic knowledge about understanding a complex system. Understand different approaches for analyzing human behavior.
4. Do you have any possible projects in mind for the CSSS?
   • I am currently working on a project, in which we try to link the voting system theories and game theory, and planning to run some experiments on it. However I am open to other interesting topics in economics or computational social choice.
