John Pang
From Santa Fe Institute Events Wiki
I currently work in a large systems engineering group at a non-profit, federally funded R&D center. Although I have a EE background, I did take a detour through the MBA-management consulting route, only to come back to engineering. My group helps federal agencies cope with complexities involved in modernizing old and large systems.
1. What are your main interests?
Mathematical descriptions of systems. At one point in my career, I could actually keep up with all the math involved, but now I work more at a higher level, conceptualizing and framing, rather than implementing.
2. What sorts of expertise can you bring to the group?
Hopefully experience and a business perspective.
3. What do you hope to get out of the CSSS?
Not just learn new concepts, but a new appreciation for how seemingly very different concepts from different knowledge domains can be applied to solve problems in a particular area.
4. Do you have any possible projects in mind for the CSSS?
Not sure yet. I hope something interesting develops as I interact with the group and participate in the discussions.
