We have a wonderful weekend getaway planned during the Global Fellows Meeting. We hope you will all join us for a trip to Star Hill Inn north of Las Vegas, New Mexico (http://www.starhillinn.com/). Star Hill is a private astronomy retreat where we will have the chance to relax and look at the stars. Please see the schedule of activities below.
Friday, September 15
We will have access to telescopes and beautiful views of the stars on Friday night. We will also serve dessert on the observation deck.
Saturday, September 16
On Saturday there will be time for hiking, relaxing, and enjoying the lovely flowers now in bloom, as well as group activities.
On Saturday evening at Star Hill we will feature an International Wine Tasting Event. We are asking each participant to bring a bottle of wine or local liquor not to exceed the equivalent of US$15 in price. Of course this is not mandatory but will just be a fun way to compare various wines from around the world. Even if you don’t drink alcohol we hope you will participate by bringing a bottle of something to share.
Saturday night will conclude with a New Mexican dinner and more stargazing, telescopes and a guided star talk with Star Hill owner/astronomer Phil Mahon.
Sunday, September 17
On Sunday we will have a guided tour of Pecos National Historical Park (http://www.nps.gov/peco/), home to the ruins of the ancient pueblo of Pecos and 12,000 years of New Mexican history.
Meals, lodging and transportation for the weekend will be arranged for all participants who go to Star Hill. A shuttle will leave the Hotel Santa Fe on Friday evening at 8:00 pm after a happy hour event with the SFI community. A second shuttle will leave the hotel on Saturday morning at 9:00 am. The whole group will return to Santa Fe late Sunday afternoon. Please plan to bring casual clothes and a warm jacket for the cool evenings.
Participants staying at the Hotel Santa Fe for the Global Fellows Meeting who are going to Star Hill must check out of their rooms at the hotel for the weekend. If you are taking the first shuttle on Friday night you will have to check out of the hotel Friday morning, and we will assist you with storing your luggage. Participants who choose not to go to Star Hill will stay in their Santa Fe accommodations for the weekend. There are no meals or events planned in Santa Fe on Saturday or Sunday.
