Alex Healing

I've been at British Telecommunications Research for a couple of years after graduating from Edinburgh University in Artificial Intelligence & Computer Science. My research is mainly based around introducing autonomic behaviour into large-scale distributed systems so as to better their performance and broker on behalf of users. I prefer bottom-up approaches to handling complexity wherever possible and am inspired by the notion of emergence. More specifically much of my recent research has involved applying multi-agent systems to service-oriented architectures to learn to adapt effectively in highly dynamic environments and elicit self-* behaviours such as healing and optimisation. I'm based in the Pervasive ICT Research Centre and work on an intelligent middleware project as part of the UK MoD Defence Technology Centre initiative.
