Sebastian Fallert

I am a first-year PhD student in the Department of Chemistry of the University of Cambridge, UK. Currently, I am working on the Contact Process, a model for the spread of an epidemic, on complex networks. In general, I'm very interested in processes like these particularly in their dynamics on networks.

My undergraduate degree was in physics, but I'm also very interested in computer science...

Questionnaire:

1. What topics you have some expertise in and would you be willing to help others learn them?

I've got some expertise in simulations of processes like the Contact Process on Computers and in some analytical techniques to investigate them. Regarding computers, I have quite a bit of experience with a range of programming languages and platforms.

2. What do you want to learn?

I would like to see how the notion of complex systems extends to other disciplines than my own. It's hard for someone trained in a natural science to pick up a book on sociology...and the SFI summer school seems like an ideal setting to broaden one's horizons in that respect.

3. Do you have any projects that would benefit from interdisciplinary approach?

Not yet...

4. Do you have any ideas for what sort of project you would like to attack this summer?

Anything that fits the above...and of course all these things I would never think of!
