And just who do you think you are?
Well, I am a PhD student in Physics at the University of Calgary in the Institute for Biocomplexity and Informatics. I got a BS in Physics from Duke University. And... uh... I play video games? Oh, and I enjoy chess. I am not sure exactly what you are looking for, here.
We’ll see about all that. What are you up to, then?
My current work focuses on applications of network topology, nonlinear dynamics, and statistical physics to biological and social phenomena. Specifically, I am studying the dynamics of genetic regulatory networks and their implications for morphogenesis.
Oh reeeaaallly? And what are you good for?
Yes, really. I am pretty good at analyzing complex networks, creating network null models, and identifying important characteristics. I also have some experience with scientific programming and statistical data analysis in general. I guess I also know a bit about nonlinear dynamics.
Yes, well... Fine, I suppose. What is it, precisely, that you want?
I look forward to learning about agent based modeling, and about new interdisciplinary applications of networks and nonlinear dynamics. Mostly, I look forward to meeting other people interested in complex systems!
Yeah, sure. So, you have any brilliant ideas for a project?
Well, not as such. I would like to work on something to do with agent based modeling and social systems.
My email address is ventres(at)gmail.com
