Kyla, a tribal member of Picuris Pueblo, was born and raised in the Sacramento suburbs of Northern California, and moved with her family to Santa Fe in September, 2009, where she became a student at the Santa Fe Indian School. Since her attendance, Kyla has maintained straight A’s in all subjects for all four years and has been an involved Honor Roll student with SFIS athletics, academic clubs and extracurricular activities. She has played Varsity Soccer and Softball for all four years and was the Boys Basketball Manager for Teams A, B, and C, for two seasons. She is a member and the clubs’ current President of the school’s chapters, of the National Honor Society and the Rho Kappa National Social Studies Honor Society. In her senior year, she is also the school’s Yearbook Editor. For the past three years, Kyla has been volunteering as a teacher’s aide for Kindergarten Catechism classes in her parish, Santa Maria de la Paz Catholic Community, and has been inspired to pursue a career in education.
