Hi everybody:
My name is Leandro Martin Alonso and, since February 2008, I've been working on my phd in physics at Universidad de Buenos Aires. I am working in the lab "Laboratorio de Sistemas Dinámicos" and we study, among other things, birdsong production as a complex phenomena emerging from the interaction of simple non-linear neural substrates and the peripheral systems.
Within this context, my first research project consisted on validating a computational model for the RA neural nucleus of cannaries, hypothesized to be responsible of driving the air sac pressure of the birds (we work with our own experimental data). The main claim of our work is that low dimensional dynamical models are able to capture most of the complexity shown in these pressure patterns. We also understand the diversity of this patterns as sub harmonic behaviours of simple non-linear neural substrates, but of course, I'll have my results with me and we can go into technical details later . . .
I am deeply interested on foundational issues and I must confess that I felt a little bit disappointed with the mainstream research in physics, that's why I am always open to learn new things. I strongly believe that I'll enjoy learning from other areas of knowledge. I also have the conviction that many tools that physicists have been using to solve their problems can be very useful in other areas. However, from my point of view, this implies collaboration with other disciplines because otherwise it seems impossible to make serious contributions.
I was raised in San Martin de los Andes, a little town nearby Bariloche (much nicer though!) and I used to go to Bariloche every summer. I haven't been to many places, but I've never been to any other place as beautiful as San Martin and it's surroundings (ie: Bariloche :) ).
I am an outgoing person, I like music a lot and I'll bring my guitar with me. I am eager to meet people who likes what they do and learn as much as possible from them.
Saludos!
