Hi,

I am currently a master’s student in Biological Sciences in the Biology Department at Los Andes University in Bogota, Colombia.

I am interested in investigating the dynamic behavior and evolution of synthetic and natural cellular networks, in order to understand fundamental aspects of adaptation and variability in cellular systems. This has led me to study how genetic circuits, composed by interconnected agents such as genes and proteins, enable individual cells to make decisions, generate oscillations, communicate with one another, and adapt to fluctuating environments. I am interested in exploring how these properties can lead to mechanisms by which population heterogeneity can be established during cellular differentiation and development. To learn more about these issues, I develop and use several experimental techniques. Also, I use simplified theoretical and computational models of genetic circuits, including deterministic and stochastic dynamical systems theory, to analyze and make predictions regarding switching transitions and population distribution. Therefore, I usually combine experimental and theoretical/computational work to generate a broad view of the underlying cellular behavior.

It is really important for me to attend to the Bariloche School, because it will be an excellent opportunity to interact with top researches in complex systems. Their comments and discussion will provide invaluable insight regarding my work. This will clearly lead to improvements with regards to the direction of my research.
