Gregor Obernosterer received his BSc. and MSc. in Computer Science and Molecular Biology from the University of Vienna, Austria. In 2003 he joined the NRW International Graduate School for Bioinformatics and Genome Research in Bielefeld, Germany as a Research Assistant. In 2005 he joined the Institute of Molecular Biotechnology of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, IMBA to start his PhD under the supervision of Javier Martinez. I am curently working on microRNAs (miRNAs), small regulatory RNAs that regulate protein coding gene expression at the post-transcriptional level. I am interested in predicting miRNA target genes and understanding their biological function, especially for brain specific miRNAs. Together with Ivo Hofacker from the Institute of Theoretical Biochemistry, TBI, Vienna I am also trying to incorporate secondary structure information that might influence binding of small RNAs, such as miRNAs to their target genes. | Gregor Obernosterer received his BSc. and MSc. in Computer Science and Molecular Biology from the University of Vienna, Austria.
