I'm an Omidyar Fellow at the Institute; I did Mathematical Physics ("Part III") at Cambridge, and then a Ph.D. in Astrophysical Sciences at Princeton in 2005, and have done research at the University of Chicago and Tokyo University. Here at SFI I think a great deal about how combinatoric and dynamical methods developed for physical systems might help to (on the one hand) analyze and (on the other hand) explain biological and social systems. I work with David Krakauer and Jessica Flack on the dynamics of conflict in animal societies, with Jennifer Dunne on statistical inference of ecosystems, and with a range of other folks on topics in "the empirical aspects of complex systems."
