Complex Systems Summer School 2016 |
Lauren Ponisio, UC Berkeley
Through my research I strive to understand the processes that contribute to biodiversity maintenance and how we can harness these processes to manage and restore diversity in human-modified systems. In a variety of landscapes, I have examined the assembly of communities through time and space to better understand the capacity of habitat, disturbance and interaction diversity to sustain biodiversity. My work has focused on understanding the assembly of mutualisms, and specifically plant-pollinator communities. In my future research, I hope to build on our understanding how and why the patterns of species and interaction diversity vary between human modified and more natural landscapes, and how we can restore the processes that maintain diversity where they have been degraded.
