Our group will investigate whether the global efficiency and organization of food webs is common among a variety of food webs. We will split into two groups to tackle this problem, but maintain some communication betweent the two groups.

  1. Develop a model of the flow of energy through the food web and test this model against food web data sets, adopting approaches from distribution network models of vascular and river systems and graph theory.
  2. Develop an information theory method to characterize the topology of the network and analyze food webs with this method to see whether a general pattern emerges.
