Urban Scaling and Social Complexity
Recent research suggests the processes which lead to allometric scaling in contemporary cities have been part of human societies all along. In this talk I illustrate a variety of manifestations of these processes in the archaeological record and discuss the implications of these findings for theories of social complexity.
