The theme of this working group is the exploration of approaches used by neural circuitry to solve big data problems and those used by scientists to understand brain structure and function. The three main problems to be addressed are:

1. How the brain represents points in high-dimensional spaces, and learns to recognize and respond to these high-dimensional objects.

2. How a complete circuit diagram of brain regions can be constructed.

3. How gene expression patterns can be used to identify distinct regions of the neocortex.
