New page

'''Answers to questions from Dan Rockmore'''

'''1. What are your main interests?'''
I am interested in the engineering of complex (information-intensive) systems. I think that we can apply evolutionary theory to development of complex systems - and we must. Large mega-projects are bogged down in traditional SE reductionist methodologies.
'''2. What sorts of expertise can you bring to the group?'''Typical electrical engineering background with specialy in field theory, Linear System Theory, communications Theory and software development.
'''3. What do you hope to get out of the CSSS?'''
I hope to warm up after a cold winter and get a better understanding of how to apply complexity theory to the (hard and soft sciences) associated with developing network-centric systems.
'''4. Do you have any possible projects in mind for the CSSS? (Recall
that you will all be working in groups on at least one project with
the goal of presenting your progress on the last day and finishing up
a paper by sumer's end.)'''
I might be intersted in looking at the effects of social networks in solving problems that don't lend themselves to reductionist solutions, i.e., if hierarchy is efficient for solving a reducible problem, what is efficient for solving non-reducible problems?
