Sweden should aim for zero carbon as quickly as possible - David Bryngelsson

The climate negotiations in Copenhagen did not result in any international treaty for reduced global emissions of greenhouse gases. To reach such an agreement it is essential that people around the world believe that they actually can reduce their emissions without reducing their standard of living or stopping their economic development. Sweden has traditionally served as a model and has often been in the very forefront of positive development, such as the abolishment of spanking in 1979 and in equality between the sexes. Now we have an excellent opportunity to once again stand out as the country that first did something to mitigate climate change and actually stopped our emissions completely. By leading such a development, we not only show the world that emission reductions can be done while maintaining our high standard of living, but it would also result in the creation of numerous job opportunities as well as development of several new industries. Industries for new energy and transportation systems with very large global markets and that otherwise will be developed in other countries. Those who choose to lead a development are usually also the most influential regarding how the development unfolds. If we want a livable planet for our children and grandchildren we must as soon as possible act to do what we can. As a small but developed country our best way to influence the future is by showing the world that it can be done.

Sverige borde bli klimatneutralt så snabbt som möjligt
Klimatförhandlingarna i Köpenhamn resulterade inte i något internationellt avtal om att minska de globala utsläppen av växthusgaser. För att nå ett sådant avtal om utsläppsminskningar är det nödvändigt att människor världen över tror på att det går att minska sina utsläpp utan att behöva sänka sin levnadsstandard eller stoppa sin ekonomiska utveckling. Sverige har traditionellt varit ett förebildsland och ofta gått i bräschen när det gäller positiv utveckling, så som avskaffandet av barnaga 1979, samt jämställdhet mellan könen. Vi har nu ett lysande tillfälle att återigen sticka ut i världen som det land som först tog tag i problemet med klimatförändringarna och faktiskt helt stoppade våra utsläpp. Genom att leda en sådan utveckling har vi inte bara möjlighet att visa omvärlden att det går att stoppa utsläppen samtidigt som behåller vår höga levnadsstandard, utan det skulle även bidra till ett stort antal arbetstillfällen och uppbyggande av flera nya industrier. Industrier för nya energi- och transportsystem, med mycket stora globala marknader och som annars kommer utvecklas i andra länder. De som väljer att leda en utveckling brukar även vara de som får mest möjlighet att diktera villkoren för hur den ska se ut. Om vi vill ha en beboelig planet för våra barn och barnbarn så måste vi nu så snart som möjligt ta tag i situationen och göra vad vi kan. Som ett litet men utvecklat land kan vi bäst påverka framtiden genom att visa världen att det faktiskt går.
