Early Events in Immunreceptor Cell Signaling: The roles of Serial Engagement and Kinetic Proofreading
From Santa Fe Institute Events Wiki
By Byron Goldstein, LANL.
- We look at the early cell signaling events mediated by immune recognition receptors on cell surfaces. These involve the construction of complexes of proteins about the cytoplasmic domains of the receptor and about the cytoplasmic domains of other membrane associated proteins. The reactions that lead to the formation of these complexes are reversible and thus the formation of these complexes is transient. We discuss how this results in the phenomena of kinetic proofreading in the context of cell signaling and significantly reduces the probability of a false response. We also discuss the role of serial engagement in cell activation.
