Well, I'm always on the lookout for new riddles (mathematical or otherwise) to confound my students with.
My hope is that this week we each submit a riddle, and then perhaps return later with answers... or just leave them unanswered.

"A wise queen is looking for an adviser. After many deadly tests she has narrowed the field down to three contestants- you and two others. She tells all three of you that she has three white hats and two black hats. Only looking at the hats the other contestants are wearing, you must deduce with certainty the colour of your own hat. If you guess wrong, you will be executed. If you fail to give convincing reasoning, you will be executed.
You may not look at your own at by any means. You are free to ask the other contestants questions, but they are under no obligation to answer truthfully.
You now find yourself sitting in the tallest tower, staring at your two fellow contestants, both of whom are wearing white hats.

The ability to freeze time but you age very quickly.

Friends of mine from Santa Fe have invited me for a hike & picnic Saturday evening, to watch the year's biggest moon rise on the hill behind st john's. They're very generous people, and when I told them about the school they insisted that I bring friends along. Didn't get enough hiking at Bandelier? Come hiking/camping with me! I plan on going on a long hike (all day, preferably 10+ miles) one of the next two weekends. If we did Wheeler Peak, I am highly in favor of the longer class 1 route. The shorter class 2 route has a scree slope at the end, and I really dislike scree (it scares me). If we camped at the trailhead, I have a 3 person tent that we could use. --Lauren

If you'd like a similar experience to Wheeler Peak, but a lot closer, I recommend Santa Fe Baldy (12600'). Well above treeline, with fantastic vistas in all directions. The trailhead is only about 20 minutes away at the Santa Fe Ski Basin. The roundtrip hike is about 14 miles, making it a reasonable day hike. As always with any mountain around here, you need to be off the exposed sections by about 2PM because of the danger from thunderstorms! --John L

That Game is a game that some of you may have encountered here at the summer school... we currently don't have a name, so all suggestiosn are welcome.

To play, select a player to go first. That player draws a card and reads the instructions. Play then passes to the right/left (just pick a direction, whatever)

The game ends the moment the last card is drawn. The winner/s is/are the player/s with the most cards at this time.

Outside Mathematics I'm most interested in Computer creativity (eg programming self generating games, stories etc) board game design and story writing. I love morally ambiguous characters and my favorite book is Red Mars. If you haven't read that book you should. Preferably right now.

My super powers include programming, building mathematical models, asking random questions, a slightly obsessive nature and a legally questionable interest in architecture.

My super weaknesses include organisation, handwriting, dependence on sleep, a slightly obsessive nature and inability to come up with coherent lists.

I'm really hoping to work on twoish projects this summer. Also, if anyone is interested in self generating platform games I'm currently seeing if I can rope people in on a project I'm working on.

Feel free to knock on my door and/or windows... not sure how often I'll be there though. Also, didn't someone mention some degree of DJing or music abilities? I can't remember, but if so, we could try to get our hands on the light rigs in the lecture hall and just make our own dance part from scratch...

I would like to go mountain biking on sunday (9th of June). Anybody interested in joining me? We can rent a bike in the city for either 30$ (hard tail) or 60$(fully), helmets are 4$ extra.
